Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Billing Questions

Q: I am a patient of a physician at HIMG, and recently received a statement which I have questions about. Who should I contact?

A: You should contact the HIMG billing department at (304)528-4605 where a representative of HIMG will be happy to assist you. To allow them to more quickly assist you, please have your statement in hand when calling.

Q: I would like to make a payment on my account, but have lost my statement.  Where do I mail my payment, and to whom do I make the check payable?

A: You may mail your check, payable to 'HIMG', to:

HIMG

ATTN: Accounts Receivable

1115 20th Street

Huntington, WV 25705

Please never send cash payment via postal mail.

Q: I was recently in the hospital, and my primary physician does not work for HIMG.  After getting out of the hospital, I received a bill from HIMG.  Why am I being billed by HIMG if my primary physician does not work for HIMG?

A: During a hospital stay, patients are often seen by more than one physician, and certain tests performed may require review by physicians other than your family physician.  A bill from HIMG would most likely be for such a service.  If you wish for a more detailed explanation, specific to your case, please call our billing department at (304) 528-4605.

Q: If I am seen as a patient at HIMG, will you bill my insurance?

A: HIMG will bill any insurance plan that you present a currently valid card for at the time of service. HIMG does require a copy of your insurance card at each visit, to help us maintain up to date insurance records for your account, and to avoid issues with your insurance company.

Q: Who in the office determines what I will get charged for?

A: At HIMG, the provider decides the appropriate level of service to bill for. This determination is based on a number of factors including the severity of the patient's condition, the number of body organs effected by the condition, time spent face to face with the patient discussing their condition as well as time spent reviewing and analyzing the patient's clinical information.

First Time Patient Questions

Q: I would like to see a doctor at HIMG, but have never been a patient there before.  Can I just stop in and see a doctor today?

A: If you have not seen a physician at HIMG before and have an immediate 'non-emergency' need, you can be seen in our Urgent Center located at our 20th Street location. After an Urgent Center visit, you will be directed to one of our primary care physicians for continued care.  HIMG's Urgicenter is not equipped to handle emergency medical situations such as chest pain, etc.  Patients experiencing serious a medical emergency should call 911.

HIMG  specialty physicians (such as gastroenterologists, cardiologists, pulmonologists) only take new patients by physician referrals. If you wish to see one of our specialist physicians, your primary care physician would need to take care of that referral.

Q: I do not currently have a family physician in the area, and would like to have one. What physicians at HIMG are accepting new patients?

A: HIMG welcomes new patients, and their families.  To begin seeing a physician, simply call (304) 528-4600 and indicate you would like to initiate care with an HIMG physician.

Q: This is my first visit to HIMG.  Is there anything special I should do for my first visit?

A: Yes, all new patients coming to HIMG for the first time should plan to arrive 15 - 20 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time, to allow adequate time to complete the "first time" paperwork that is required.

Q: I do not have health insurance coverage. Will I have to pay anything at my first visit?

A: Yes, you will need to come to your visit prepared to make a "deposit" on your visit of $153.00. This payment will be applied to the service provided during your initial visit. You will receive a statement for any remaining balance. Payment is expected within 10 days after receiving a statement.

Q: I have health insurance coverage. Will I have to pay anything during my first visit?

A: You will need to come to your visit prepared to pay any co-payment listed on your insurance card. HIMG will bill your 3rd party coverage and then send you a statement for any balance due. Payment is expected within 10 days after receiving a statement.

Q: What kind of paperwork will I have to complete during my visit?

A: Our receptionist  will ask you to complete a basic Patient Information Form, read and sign the HIMG Credit Policy and Patient Responsibility Statement, and complete HIMG's HIPAA notification form. Additionally, your provider may ask you to complete a Past Medical History Form that will help him/her to get to know you better.

During subsequent visits, you will be asked to complete an abbreviated " Patient Information Form". Additionally, we will make a copy of your insurance card to compare to the information we already have on file for you.

Medical Records Questions

Q: I am moving and need to make arrangements to have my medical information transferred to my new physician.  What steps do I take to make that happen?

A: A release of information form can be obtained from HIMG or from your new provider.  Complete the form in its entirety, providing  the name and address of the physician you want to receive your records.  We will send the copies for you, as directed.

Q: I called HIMG to get information about a family member and was told that I’m not authorized to secure that type of information. Why is that?

A: Patient confidentiality is a very high priority at HIMG.  In an effort to ensure that patient information is private and secure, patient accounts may only be discussed with the patient themselves, unless HIMG has received direct authorization from the patient that HIMG may discuss their account with another person.  When a patient makes such an authorization, a specific person must be named (for instance the patient cannot authorize 'my family', but can authorize 'my wife, Jane Doe'.  No exceptions will be made to this rule.

Miscellaneous Questions

Q: I was under the care of a HIMG physician many years ago, and that physician has since retired, moved from the area, or left the practice.  What steps do I need to take to re-establish care with an HIMG physician?

A: If you were followed by an HIMG physician at some point, and would like to once again become a patient of one of our physicians, we welcome your return.  To re-establish care, you simply need to follow the steps listed above for establishing care as a new patient, but be sure to indicate you already have an account with our group.

Q: I have read  that there is a specific type of lab test I should have done for someone my age. Can I come to your facility and have someone perform that test, without seeing a physician?

A: All medical testing must be ordered by a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician's assistant. To have a medical test performed at HIMG, the medical professional ordering the test does not have to work for HIMG, but HIMG must have an order from a physician to perform the test.
